Embry-Riddle Cancels All In-Person Events through May 2020

To help prevent the spread of the novel 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19), Embry-Riddle has cancelled all in-person internal and external events through at least the end of May 2020, including camps, athletics and meetings. This cancellation includes Summer A residential courses (i.e., in-person, on-campus courses). An announcement on the on-line course offerings for Summer A is coming soon.

Daily wellness checks, disinfection, social distancing and other preventive measures remain in place at Embry-Riddle’s two residential campuses. Our efforts to keep students, faculty and staff safe have included these and other steps:

University Updates

  • Most courses were migrated online as of March 18. Faculty members have been working hard to provide high-quality online educational experiences.
  • “Keep Learning” resources for students and “Keep Teaching” tutorials for faculty were posted to ERNIE. Virtual tutoring is now available to students.
  • Students were asked to vacate residence halls as of March 29. Most students were able to comply with that request, issued based on the rapidly changing situation and potential lack of community health resources for students near the residential campuses. Students with hardships were provided additional time to make arrangements, and were given the opportunity to request a waiver to remain on campus if necessary. A total of 375 students on both campuses will be remaining based on hardship factors such as inability to travel to their home countries. Storage and shipping instructions were shared with Daytona Beach and Prescott students.
  • Students who were already at home have been asked to either store or retrieve their belongings from residence halls by April 19.
  • Flight operations were temporarily suspended on our Prescott, Ariz., campus last week as the result of a COVID-19 related health concern.
  • Daytona Beach, Fla., flight operations are continuing, but under heightened precautions. Students who are not already flying should not return to the Daytona Beach Campus at this time.

Summary of Cases

To date, Embry-Riddle has addressed the following COVID-19 cases:

  • On March 25, Prescott Campus flight operations were shut down after the roommate of an employee tested positive for COVID-19. Everyone who had come into contact with the employee and/or the roommate were notified to self-monitor.
  • Also on March 25, a part-time student with Embry-Riddle’s Asia Campus in Singapore was confirmed to have the virus. The student had not been on that campus for several months.
  • On March 26, the Florida Department of Health confirmed that two employees with Embry-Riddle’s Worldwide Campus and one Daytona Beach Campus employee had tested positive for the virus.
  • In addition, various individuals have self-reported symptoms. All such cases are immediately assessed. Embry-Riddle will continue to swiftly disclose all cases as soon as they have been confirmed by health officials.

We wish a speedy recovery for anyone affected by the virus. Embry-Riddle health workers are working closely with all appropriate state and local officials.
