Additional Safety-Focused Closures and Protocols Announced
As Embry-Riddle prepares to close its residence halls on Sunday, March 29, additional safety-focused steps will be put in place on both residential campuses. Key information is outlined below and will also be updated, as needed on our special COVID-19 informational webpage.
To recap the current situation, students on our residential campuses in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Prescott, Arizona, should make plans now to return home or find alternate housing in the area.
We fully understand, and apologize for, the inconvenience that closure of our residence halls is causing many students and their families. In considering escalating circumstances related to the global pandemic earlier this week, we concluded that providing some notice, however brief, would be safer and less traumatic than having to force students out of residence halls in real-time, in the event of a sudden shutdown order by authorities.
As noted in our March 25 statement, international students and/or students facing insurmountable hardships can request an exemption via their Dean of Students. Senior leadership will evaluate all such requests on a case-by-case basis. Please be assured that Embry-Riddle will find solutions to help all Eagles. We will ensure that each student has a plan for shelter, or we will provide assistance, as needed.
Students who had already returned home will need to retrieve their belongings from the residence halls between now and April 19, including over the weekend, or arrange for storage. You must stop by a wellness check station before entering the residence halls. Check times and locations online. Those without a current wellness check sticker will not be allowed entry.
Do not return to campus if you are sick, have been on a cruise, traveled to any international region or have been in close contact with anyone with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 within the past 14 days. For questions about storage options, information will be posted soon to the ERNIE page for the Housing & Residence Life office on each campus. To request shipment of essential items from Prescott, complete the request form online here.
Additional aspects of our shutdown procedures are as follows:
- COMMUNITY SPACES: At day’s end on Friday, March 27, community gathering spaces will close. The library on the Daytona Beach Campus will close on March 27. The Prescott Campus library will remain open on Saturday, March 28.
- DINING HALLS: Dining halls on both campuses will be limited to take-out by close of business on March 27. On the Daytona Beach Campus, take-out meals will be available via Boundless within Residence Hall 2. On the Prescott Campus, take-out will be available at Earhart’s Dining.
- OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: All outdoor activities are restricted to single-person activities.
- LABORATORIES: Any remaining open labs will be closed. Any exceptions for lab access have already been vetted by the Provost. Please note that those exceptions will be withdrawn in the event of a shutdown order from authorities.
- EAGLE CARDS: Except for any remaining students who have been granted an exemption, Eagle card access will be deactivated as of Monday, March 30.
- SOCIAL DISTANCING: To ensure social distancing, students with approved hardship exemptions will be consolidated into a single residence hall, with only one student per room, on each campus (Residence Hall 2 on the Daytona Beach Campus, and T1 Residence Hall on the Prescott Campus).
- ON-SITE SUPERVISION: Responsible residence advisors or professional housing staff will be on-site to help ensure everyone’s safety in the remaining residence halls on a 24/7 basis.
- MAIL FORWARDING: Complete mail-forwarding procedures before you depart your campus. On the Daytona Beach Campus, complete the forwarding form on ERNIE. Retrieve all of your mail from your mailbox and push the door closed (it will not lock). On the Prescott Campus, fill out a forwarding address here and turn in your mailroom key to the mailroom or along with your room key.
- CARS ON CAMPUS: Cars with current Embry-Riddle parking decals may be left on your campus over the summer. On the Daytona Beach Campus, the Cochran lot is preferred until it reaches capacity. An email or phone call to Campus Safety is sufficient notice (Daytona.Safety.Request@erau.edu / 386-226-6480). On the Prescott Campus, leave your vehicle in Lot F on Haas Blvd. If you will not be returning to the Prescott Campus and your car is in a residence hall parking lot, it does not need to be moved. Be sure to notify the Campus Safety office on your campus (Daytona Beach, 386-226-6480 / Prescott, 928-777-3333).
- HOUSING CHECK-OUT: Pick up a check-out envelope from Housing & Residence Life, fill it out, place your key in the envelope and leave it in a drop box. You can also mail your key back to campus. Get in touch with Housing & Residence Life for a shipping label.
- HOUSING/MEAL PLAN RELIEF: We promise that you will be offered financial relief options on housing and meal plans. Once we get through the present challenge, we will be in touch promptly with additional details.
Once this health crisis is over, we look forward to seeing all Eagles back on campus. We want to support you to the greatest extent possible during this difficult time. Stay healthy.
