The Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 337 at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott campus welcomed a new class of initiates Monday afternoon. The 45 new initiates included 29 seniors, five juniors, three graduate students, and eight members of Embry-Riddle faculty and staff, who were selected to join the ranks of Phi Kappa Phi due to the merit of their outstanding scholarship which was emblematic of Phi Kappa Phi’s motto: Let the love of learning rule humanity

“The motto of Phi Kappa Phi is an excellent mindset to have, and will open many doors in the future,” said Phi Kappa Phi officer Nathaniel Van Evera, a senior from the College of Engineering. “If you are willing to learn, people are always willing to teach. Having the passion or love for learning is a powerful tool that can set yourself up for success.”

Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective multidisciplinary collegiate honor society, initiating more than 30,000 members every year on over 300 campuses in the United States and the Philippines. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott Chapter 337 was opened in 2017, and has since added over 100 members to Phi Kappa Phi.

The initiation ceremony also introduced Embry-Riddle’s 2019 Faculty Top Scholar Awardee, Dr. William Crisler. Crisler’s nomination came from university students in appreciation for his position as the Raisbeck Chair, and for his valued mentorship to multiple capstone teams. Crisler is also an active mentor for a number of extracurricular engineering programs for the university.

Initiates welcomed into Phi Kappa Phi receive a variety of benefits and services designed to assist them throughout their academic and professional lives. In addition to joining a storied Society which has initiated more than 1.5 million members into its ranks, initiates are welcomed into a global network composed of the best and brightest from all academic disciplines. Society members are also eligible to compete for numerous scholarships and awards assisting with graduate programs, study abroad opportunities, and other academic pursuits.

“By virtue of your superior scholarship, by virtue of what you have achieved and who you are—a combination of qualities that led to your election by this chapter of the Society—it is now my privilege to declare you to be members in good standing of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi,” said Dr. Anne Boettcher, President of the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Prescott Chapter to the assembly of new initiates upon taking their affirmation of membership. “May you continue to merit this high honor, never complacent; ever seeking the realization of the society’s motto. Congratulations to you all.”
