Introducing Steven Scates, Prescott's New Flight Department Chair
The Department of Aviation on the Prescott Campus announced Steven Scates as the new Flight Department Chair. This appointment brings about Scates’ return to the Prescott campus—his alma mater—after his graduation in 1994 with degrees in Aeronautical Science and Aviation Safety.
“I’m very excited to be back at ERAU Prescott,” said Scates. “Spending the last twenty plus years in the aviation industry has put me in a great position to come back home and pass along invaluable experience to our students here at the Prescott Campus.”
With over 25 years in aeronautics, including over 9500 flight hours, Scates is a world class pilot, leader, and instructor. As a FAR 121/135 Captain/Chief Pilot, Scates is well versed in the practical and logistical challenges all pilots face in and out of the cockpit. Scates also brings his vast experience as a former underwriter for the United States Aircraft Insurance Group (USAIG) to Embry-Riddle, providing further insight into the field of insuring pilots and aircraft.
Scates is the founder of Jet Aeronautical, LLC, a Citation and King Air Training Facility located in San Diego, Cali. Jet Aeronautical is an established training facility providing critical skills to pilots since its formation in 2005.
“Living in Prescott and working with ERAU students has been on my bucket list for many years. I’m looking forward to many years at the flight line.”
