Embry-Riddle Temporarily Halts ROTC Physical Training at the Daytona Beach Campus

To ensure the safety of the entire Embry-Riddle community, and out of an abundance of caution, ROTC physical training (PT) activities at the university’s Daytona Beach, Florida, campus have been temporarily halted, following an uptick in confirmed Covid-19 cases among cadets.

The temporary safety stand-down, effective immediately, encompasses the U.S. Army and Air Force ROTC units located on the Daytona Beach Campus. Embry-Riddle left the door open to reassess the situation once current Covid-19 cases have been cleared to resume activities.

The university emphasized that it will meanwhile continue to support specific activities that are requisite for scholarship and/or commissioning.

Embry-Riddle testing confirmed 7 cases of Covid-19 within the ROTC ranks this week and an additional 13 students were quarantined as a result of exposure. All confirmed cases are now in isolation and Embry-Riddle is completing contact tracing and additional testing. Facilities will be rigorously cleaned and disinfected. Embry-Riddle and ROTC will reevaluate all safety protocols.

While regrettable, Embry-Riddle leadership felt that a safety stand-down for PT was essential to stop any further spread of the virus.
