Eagle Spotlight: Internships, Involvement Key to Grad Student’s Full-Ride Scholarship

With a longstanding goal of becoming an air safety investigator, master’s student Emma Rasmussen has won the ISASI-Robertson Fellowship. The fellowship is granted to further research in aviation safety science topics such as crashworthiness, survivability and accident investigation. Fellowship recipients receive full tuition funding, a monthly stipend and access to research-related travel funding.

Since coming to Embry-Riddle in 2018, Rasmussen has participated in, and often led, a wide array of projects on and off campus, including working in four internships — with Boom Supersonic, Republic Airways' LIFT Academy, Sierra Nevada Corporation and Cirrus Aircraft, where she still interns.

“I have made a concerted effort to involve myself in a wide variety of activities on campus and in the aviation industry,” said Rasmussen, who will be earning a master's degree in Safety Science beginning next spring. “I think exposing myself to many challenges, projects, internships and activities has allowed me to stand out and remain competitive when seeking scholarships and employment opportunities.”

Hailing from Parker, Colorado, Rasmussen said being at Embry-Riddle has greatly helped her to advance.

“Being an Embry-Riddle student provides me with networking and research opportunities, extracurricular activities relevant to my career goals, and an environment that has been essential to my academic and professional success,” she said.
