Daytona Beach Campus Women’s Soccer Team Tops National Academic Rankings

The Embry-Riddle women’s soccer team in Daytona Beach, Florida, has been awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award. The team achieved the highest GPA of any soccer team, men or women­, at any level–NCAA Divisions I, II, III and NAIA–in the nation for its collective work in the classroom during the 2015-16 season.

The 18-member Eagle squad posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.85, besting academic powerhouses such as MIT (3.74), Stanford (3.58), Harvard (3.54), Duke (3.51) and Princeton (3.32).

Nine Embry-Riddle women’s soccer players posted perfect 4.0 GPAs in 2015-16 and all 18 team members garnered All-Sunshine State Conference academic recognition.

On the field, the Blue and Gold established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the program¹s first season of NCAA II provisional membership. The Eagles finished the year at 11-3-1 overall and were

7-2-1 against Sunshine State Conference opponents. Another strong performance this year has had the team ranked as high as No. 15 nationally.

To qualify for the NSCAA award, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
