Greece Honors Embry-Riddle’s Office of Global Engagement
The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) and Greek travel program partner Get Lost have received the Bronze Award for Strategic Investment, Cooperation & Development at the 2016 Greek Tourism Awards Gala in Athens. Sue Macchiarella, Director of OGE in Daytona Beach, and Get Lost’s Angeliki Vaxevaniki received the award at the grand social event that honors the leaders and innovators of the country’s $36 billion per year travel, hospitality and leisure industry.
Embry-Riddle is the first U.S. university to receive a Greek Tourism Award, thanks to the OGE’s creative and strategic partnership with Get Lost, whose travel experts, game designers, historians and archeologists incorporate riddles, myths and stories in their tours to immerse Embry-Riddle students in ancient civilizations and modern culture as they travel through Greece.
“This is an exciting partnership we’ve made in Greece. It was an honor that CEOs of travel and hospitality companies and tourism industry leaders got a glimpse of our study-abroad program making a difference in their country,” said Macchiarella. “It’s our goal to create unique global education programs like this one, then engage our amazing faculty to lead the programs and know these experiences can change a young person’s life. Listening to students tell their stories of discovery and growth when they return to campus is the ultimate reward of our program.”
