Daytona Beach Campus' Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity Receives Award for Excellence
Embry-Riddle’s Pi Kappa Alpha chapter has received the prestigious Raymond L. Orians Chapter Excellence Award for the academic achievement and philanthropy of its members.
The chapter received the award at the 2016 Pi Kappa Alpha International Convention earlier this month. The chapters that win this award are amongst the best on their campus and Pi Kappa Alpha’s most competitive chapters.
Lambda Mu, Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach Pi Kappa Alpha chapter, was recognized for its 3.09 cumulative GPA, raising over $65,000 for nonprofits, and winning five intramural championships. Nonprofits the organization raised money for include the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties, the Daytona Beach Fire Department and the Pi Kappa Alpha Cycle for Life Foundation.
“This is our fourth year winning in a row and every brother has been part of the effort to grow this organization and continue to empower our members to become leaders on both the campus and in the community,” said Lambda Mu chapter president Brian Gruzdis.
Deb Padgett, assistant director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, said that Embry-Riddle’s fraternity and sorority life consistently demonstrates hard work, dedication, leadership and philanthropy.
“Pi Kappa Alpha is one tremendous example of a growing number of our organizations that are being spotlighted for being one of the top chapters in U.S. and Canada,” she said. “I’d like to extend my personal and heartfelt congratulations to the Lambda Mu chapter on their hard work over the past year that resulted in their recognition of one of Pi Kappa Alpha’s top fraternal honors.”
