More Than 350 Graduates to Participate in Prescott Commencement Ceremony May 5
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Prescott and Worldwide Campuses will graduate more than 350 students at the University's Spring 2018 Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 5, at 10 a.m. at the Prescott Valley Event Center.
Featuring 325 students from the Prescott Campus and 37 from the Worldwide Campus, the graduating class includes 31 Prescott students receiving military commissions: 20 from Air Force ROTC and 11 from Army ROTC.
The keynote speaker will be the Hon. Robert L. Sumwalt, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chairman. Sumwalt was sworn in as the 14th chairman of the NTSB on Aug. 10, 2017 after being nominated by President Donald J. Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. He began his tenure at the NTSB in August 2006 when President George W. Bush appointed him to the Board and designated him as Vice Chairman. In November 2011, President Barack Obama reappointed Sumwalt to an additional five-year term as Board Member. Additionally, Chairman Sumwalt earned a Master's of Aeronautical Science (with Distinction) degree through the Embry-Riddle Worldwide Campus, with concentrations in aviation/aerospace systems and human factors aviation systems.
"As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Prescott, Arizona campus, it is fitting that we also graduate the largest and most accomplished class in our history from both the Prescott and Worldwide campuses," said Chancellor Dr. Frank Ayers. "It is also so very special that NTSB Chair Robert Sumwalt, a Worldwide campus graduate, and great supporter of our Robertson Safety Center, will be here to inspire our graduating class."
