Embry-Riddle Gathers in Solidarity with LGBTQ, Latino Communities

Dear University Community,
On Thursday, June 16, our Eagle family in Daytona Beach and Prescott will gather in solidarity with the LGBTQ and Latino communities and the many others who are so deeply affected by the deadliest mass shooting in American history. Embry-Riddle stands with Orlando, a place many of us frequent and consider part of our community. This week, we watched the news unfold about a senseless act of hate and terror, waiting with deep anxiety for information about the victims.
Today, I can confirm, and am greatly relieved, that none of our students, faculty, staff or alumni were injured in this heinous act of violence. Yet the sigh of relief stings with pain, especially since we know that Pulse is a popular nightclub frequented by some Eagles who lost loved ones on that tragic morning.
Many of us are reeling from the emotional wounds in the aftermath of this tragic event and are asking ourselves what this means for our community and our country. I want to remind you that we are not powerless. Embry-Riddle is committed to compassion and respect. Hate and discrimination have no place at our University, and I know we stand together in agreement that they have no place in our world.
Please join me in reaffirming that Embry-Riddle remains a place where people of all races, sexual orientation and beliefs can be themselves, be safe, and be successful.
Sincerely yours,
Karen A. Holbrook
Interim President
