Two Civil Engineering Graduate Students Win Awards for Their Work

Two Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University graduate students in the Department of Civil Engineering recently won awards for their work.
Tonmoy Ghosh was chosen for the 2025 Vista Award from the Volo Foundation, which includes a $10,000 prize. The award recognized students who display exemplary leadership, along with vision, innovation, sustainability, technology and action in climate solutions. Ghosh will present his project, "Using Low-Cost Air Quality Sensors to Characterize Environmental Justice in Florida," at the Climate Correction Conference, being held in March in Orlando.
Shreya Sapkota was awarded a $500 prize and registration to an upcoming conference in Tampa from the Florida Air and Waste Management Association. The association recognized Sapkota for her commitment to achieving career goals in air pollution control and waste management. Sapkota’s project is about the impacts of vehicular electrification on air quality in Florida.
"These are new external awards presented to our students, which add to the overall pool of recognitions they receive,” said Dr. Marwa M.H. El-Sayed, an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and the students' advisor. "I’m very proud of my students for their outstanding achievements, commitment and hard work."
