Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has secured additional living space, to be staffed with on-site Resident Advisors, to safely accommodate some students now on a waiting list for campus housing and to avoid any tripling of students in residence halls amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The additional living spaces, located near Embry-Riddle’s campuses in Prescott, Arizona, and Daytona Beach, Florida, will be offered to students at the sophomore or higher level. Embry-Riddle is working to ensure that students will feel safe and comfortable, wherever they are assigned to live. Prices will vary by location and room type and will be similar to equivalent on-campus housing options.

Specific plans for additional living spaces on the Prescott and Daytona Beach campuses are outlined below.

Prescott Campus

To serve more than 125 students at the Prescott Campus, Embry-Riddle has leased spacious furnished apartments at the new Willow Creek Apartment Complex. This living space is located three minutes from campus, adjacent to the Willow Loop bicycle trail and surrounded by mountain views. Each of these modern apartments offer kitchens and living rooms as well as amenities such as washers and dryers in the units.

  • Resident Advisors working with Willow Creek staff and university Housing will be on site and available to students at the Willow Creek Apartment Complex.
  • Students will have access to high-speed Internet, a business center, a fitness center, a fenced outdoor picnic area, lobby seating for studying, BBQ grill, and a clubhouse with a lounge/common area with television sets, games, beverages and snacks.
  • Rooms in this new complex will be furnished and will accommodate two students per bedroom, with one shared bath. The university’s units include a mix of “Granite Mountain” (two-bedroom) and “Thumb Butte” (one-bedroom) units. Floor plans are available on Willow Creek’s website.
  • Each unit has its own washer and dryer, and all basic utilities (everything but cable) will be provided.
  • Campus Safety & Security officers will patrol the area. No other guests will be allowed in students’ rooms during the fall 2020 semester.
  • Students are expected to adhere to all Covid-19 health precautions set forth by Embry-Riddle, including the use of face coverings in all common areas.

“These additional living spaces will provide students with a positive campus living experience,” said Prescott Campus Chancellor Dr. Anette Karlsson. “Particularly at this time, when all of us have so much to worry about in the larger world, we want our students to thrive, feel at home, and continue pushing forward with their education during the fall 2020 semester.”

Daytona Beach Campus

At the Daytona Beach Campus, Embry-Riddle has arranged for students to move into the entire Courtyard by Marriott, a modern facility located virtually on campus and directly across the street from some of the university’s existing residence halls. Embry-Riddle has a long-standing partnership with the Courtyard by Marriott, which has often welcomed students and families as well as other guests visiting the university.

  • Resident Advisors and Marriott staff working with university Housing personnel will always be on site and available to students at the Courtyard by Marriott.
  • Students will have access to high-speed Internet, a computer lab, a fitness room, a coffee shop, a small convenience store, and a lobby with multiple television sets and seating/tables for studying.
  • All rooms will be furnished. Most rooms will have two students sharing a room, with one bathroom. The university will be replacing the single king-sized beds with twin beds and providing additional storage and chairs in each room. A few larger suites and single rooms may be available based on demand.
  • The university is currently working to put a subsidized laundry service in place for students living at the Courtyard by Marriott.
  • Campus Safety & Security officers will patrol the area. No other guests will be allowed in students’ rooms during the fall 2020 semester.
  • Students are expected to adhere to all Covid-19 health precautions set forth by Embry-Riddle, including the use of face coverings in all common areas.

“Embry-Riddle’s primary goal is to keep all students as safe as possible,” said Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Lon Moeller. “On the Daytona Beach Campus this fall, the Courtyard by Marriott will function as an extension of the university’s regular residence halls so that students can live comfortably and learn effectively.”

On-Campus Residence Halls

Embry-Riddle has developed a comprehensive plan to create living environments that are as safe and healthy as possible for all students who have Housing contracts with the university.

Within Embry-Riddle’s traditional residence halls, making health and safety a top priority has meant analyzing pedestrian traffic patterns in common areas such as hallways so as to minimize bottlenecks. We have also eliminated all triple rooms. Face coverings remain mandatory in all public areas, including hallways and common rooms, which will undergo frequent cleaning. Students will be reminded to regularly disinfect their bathrooms, using supplies provided by the university.

Some students have been on a waiting list to live on campus. Please be assured that Embry-Riddle is doing everything feasible to accommodate those requests by placing students in both on-campus residence halls and in the additional living spaces described above. If we cannot accommodate every student in these ways, we may be able to suggest other off-campus options close to campus. In some limited cases, single rooms may also open up, especially as the semester progresses
