Spring Speaker Series Welcomes Bret Baier of Fox News Channel on Jan. 11

Wednesday, Jan. 11, 8:15 p.m. - Bret Baier of Fox News Channel to Discuss New Book

Bret Baier will discuss his new book, Three Days in January, with Speaker Series Host Marc Bernier. The book is a riveting account of the three days between Dwight Eisenhower’s prophetic “farewell presidential address” on the evening of Jan. 17, 1961, and his successor John F. Kennedy’s inauguration on the afternoon of Jan. 20. Baier characterizes these three days and subsequent meetings with Kennedy as the final mission of one of modern America’s greatest leaders.

Presidential historian Michael Beschloss said that Three Days in January is a “valuable contribution to our appreciation of Ike, describing some of his most important qualities of character, wisdom and leadership, which are so needed in the public figures of our own era.”

Bret Baier is the Chief Political Anchor for Fox News Channel and the Anchor and Executive Editor of Special Report with Bret Baier, seen five days a week on Fox News Channel.

Baier’s first book, Special Heart: A Journey of Faith, Hope, Courage and Love, became a top-10 New York Times bestseller upon its release in 2014.

January 30, 7 p.m. - Margaret Lazarus Dean, Author of Leaving Orbit

Professor Margaret Lazarus Dean of the University of Tennessee will talk about her book, Leaving Orbit, chronicling the last days of American spaceflight. A book signing follows the moderated discussion by Marc Bernier.

Feb. 8, 4:30 p.m. at the Lemerand Auditorium - Dr. Emilio Gonzalez: Airport Operations & Safety

Join the College of Business & ERAU Speaker Series for a presentation by Dr. Emilio Gonzalez. Dr. Gonzalez is Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department. He will discuss current and future airport operations including safety measures. Marc Bernier will moderate, and a Q&A will follow the presentation. 

March 6, 7 p.m. - How Universities Can Help Students Ask the Big Questions

The Harry and Ada Lamon Distinguished Speaker Series presents Gary Laderman, Professor of American Religion History at Emory University. Join moderator Marc Bernier for a discussion on religious and social issues in America, with an emphasis on the role higher education plays in shaping these issues.

March 27, 7 p.m. - Cybersecurity: What’s Next for You?

From identity theft and fraud to corporate hacking attacks, cybersecurity has never been more important for businesses, organizations, governments and individuals. Hacking experts warn there are many more security risks ahead as cyber criminals become more sophisticated. While traditional cybercrime such as Internet password fraud continues to be widespread, larger-scale espionage attacks and hacking the Internet of Things will also be risks. Marc Bernier will go in-depth with three cybersecurity experts from Embry-Riddle and Daytona State College on how your computer, your bank and even your automobile could be at risk.

April 10, 7 p.m. - Beyond The South Pole, with Embry-Riddle Alumnus, U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. David Panzera

Lt. Col. David Panzera is Director of the Program Integration Office of the New York Air National Guard’s 109th Airlift Wing. He will share with Marc Bernier and the audience stories of McMurdo Station in Antarctica and his air wing’s adventures in supporting scientific research at the coldest place on Earth.

“When you land in the South Pole on an average day, it’s minus 30 degrees and you’re standing and landing on ice that is two-and-a-half miles thick, you’re 9,300 feet above sea level, and there’s a whole host of challenges that come with touch operations,” Panzera said in a recent interview with Military.com. “All of Antarctica is reserved to the world for scientific research and study. Everything we do is in support of joint-effort science. The missions to the South Pole deliver food, different fuels, scientific gear, equipment and supplies, and we also take out all the waste – nothing on this continent stays.”
