SGA Awarded Commemorative Key to New Student Union

In appreciation of their involvement in bringing the new Student Union to life and their service to Eagles from the past, present and future, the Student Government Association was presented with a commemorative key to the Student Union at a recent Grand Opening celebration.
Embry-Riddle President P. Barry Butler presented the key, which will be on display in the SGA chambers in the new Student Union, to current SGA President Chad Stearns.
“This key unlocks opportunity,” said Butler, adding that his office will also be working with Stearns and his leadership team on another plaque recognizing all students for helping to achieve the vision of the new Student Union.
Alumnus and Embry-Riddle Board of Trustees Chairman Mori Hosseini told students, faculty, staff and alumni who gathered for the celebration that the new Student Union makes a “bold statement” to not only students, but industry leaders. He thanked students and former SGA presidents for their continued involvement throughout the design and construction of the new Student Union.
“By centralizing all the different services and amenities at the heart of the campus, we are telling students that we support your success,” Hosseini said.
He also shared how people would ask him as a student in the mid-1970s if he was going to that “little flight school in Daytona Beach.”
“This building signals our arrival as a global force, a research institution and a partner to the industry. We are no longer that ‘little flight school in Daytona Beach.’ We outgrew that a long time ago. Nobody can miss that we mean business,” Hosseini said.
