Proceed with Caution As you Drive and Walk Through Campus

As students begin to return to Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach Campus over the weekend, and Flight students return to campus on Saturday, Oct. 12, please remain vigilant for any road hazards and inoperable traffic lights throughout the area.

The traffic signal at the main entrance to Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus along Clyde Morris Boulevard is currently inoperable. The City of Daytona Beach has been notified, and Campus Safety and Security will erect safety signage to alert drivers to proceed with caution through the intersection.

Pedestrians should use extreme caution as they navigate the area and are strongly encouraged to use the crosswalk over Clyde Morris Boulevard instead of crossing Clyde Morris directly.

Across the area, emergency crews from Daytona Beach and the surrounding area will continue to clean up roads and debris for several days; road closures and power outages persist throughout the area. Pay attention to alerts and watch out for dangerous conditions. Visit Hurricane Milton (volusia.org) for the latest information.

Members of campus Facilities and Safety and Security teams continue to assess Embry-Riddle’s campuses and Worldwide Headquarters for any damage today and continue to perform clean-up activities. Continue to follow all safety guidelines.

Prioritize Safety: Flight to Resume Saturday; All Classes to Resume Monday

As a reminder, Flight will resume operations on Saturday, and all facilities will operate as normal beginning on Monday, Oct. 14. Returning to the university’s regular academic calendar will ensure that all academic programs continue to meet accreditation requirements as well as the university’s own educational standards of excellence.

University leadership urges individual students to put safety first and return only when it is safe and feasible to do so, given travel- and weather-related challenges in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. Faculty will practice flexibility with students whose travel is delayed as a result of the storm.

Students who are unable to return to campus immediately should report a travel delay and contact their professors as well as the Daytona Beach Dean of Students Office at dbdos@erau.edu (386-226-6326).

Any faculty or staff member who has been impacted by the storm should reach out to their supervisor and/or their Human Resources representative who can help you navigate next steps regarding time off or return to work.

As a reminder, strong winds and dangerous tides could persist for days. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to avoid travel and all beachside activities until it is safe to resume these activities. Additionally, any flooding or standing water can cause dangerous conditions. Do not drive through flooded areas and avoid wading into any standing water.

The safety of our students is our top priority. Contact your individual professors should you have any questions or concerns.

Parking Garage to Close; Student Union and Food Service During Hurricane Milton

Parking Garage to Be Closed Tuesday, Oct. 8, Through Thursday, Oct. 10

With the closing of the Daytona Beach campus due to Hurricane Milton, and in anticipation of tropical-storm force winds, with possible hurricane force gusts, we are implementing the parking garage severe weather plan. This plan allows for temporary shelter of aircraft during severe weather. As such, both the mobile pay parking and the upper reserved levels of the garage will be closed Tuesday, Oct. 8 through Thursday, Oct. 10.

Mobile pay parking will close Monday at 5 p.m. There will be no entry permitted into the reserved parking spaces after 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8. All vehicles parked in the reserved spaces must depart the garage by 5 p.m. Tuesday so that hurricane fabric can be placed. Your vehicle can remain in the reserved space during the storm, but you will not have access to it until the garage reopens on Friday.

For parking inquiries, visit the Campus Safety office located on the first level of the parking garage, opposite the College of Aviation, or the Campus Safety Communications Center inside the Student Union. You also may email Daytona.Safety.Request@erau.edu.

Dining Options During Hurricane Milton

For any student who must remain on campus during the severe weather anticipated during Hurricane Milton, at this time, the Mori Hosseini Student Union will close on Monday, Oct. 7 at 9 p.m. This includes all dining services.

Sodexo will operate the Boundless campus restaurant on Tuesday, Oct. 8, through Thursday, Oct. 10, with modified hours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Boundless will also be offering boxed shelf-stable to-go breakfast and lunch meals for pick-up beginning Tuesday at noon. Students are encouraged to take these meals back to dorm rooms.

All other restaurant locations and food providers will be closed until Friday, Oct. 11.

Students are also encouraged to have extra snacks and food on hand as well as any medications or other essentials. Please check on your neighbors and assist each other as necessary during campus closure.

As of this writing, the Student Union will plan to resume normal operations at 6 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11.
