Dear Prescott Campus Community,

Anyone who has been in close, unprotected contact with many others or thinks they may have been exposed to Covid-19 over the past week is urged to take part in sentinel testing as soon as possible.

Sentinel tests, which are self-administered and do not require any quarantine time, will be offered on the Prescott Campus as follows:

  • Friday – 8:00 am – 11:00 am at the Wellness Center tent
  • Monday – Noon – 2:00 pm at the Wellness Center tent

Students, faculty or staff members who are experiencing fever, cough, shortness of breath or other symptoms of illness should stay at home, away from others, and contact the Wellness Center at (928) 777-6653.

Wellness Center Director Sandy Palmer noted that Covid-19 typically has a four- to seven-day incubation period. “The Prescott Campus has been very fortunate to have a low incidence of Covid-19 so far this semester and we don’t want to see that change,” Palmer said. “Testing is essential for preventing the further spread of the virus. If you were in a large crowd earlier in the week, we ask you to take personal responsibility and protect our community by getting tested now.”

Dean of Students Dr. Rhondie Voorhees emphasized that Embry-Riddle’s number one priority is the health and safety of the entire campus community. “If you attended the large rally that took place in Prescott on Monday, please know that our goal is simply to get you tested,” she said. “If you are a student, we are not looking to refer you for student conduct. This approach is consistent with the precedents already set for this semester. We have referred students who have hosted unsafe events for conduct, but not those who attended them. We are asking everyone to be personally responsible and get tested if they were in a large group where they might have been exposed to Covid-19.”

Chancellor Karlsson has noted that as Covid-19 cases have been on the rise in communities across the country, “Our best defense against the spread of this deadly virus is abiding by the CDC recommendations.”

In particular, she has reminded us to wear a face covering, stay six feet apart at all times and avoid large groups. Do not attend classes, work or other activities if you are sick. Get a flu shot and practice rigorous hand hygiene.

Embry-Riddle requires face coverings and physical distancing as well as daily wellness checks for everyone on campus. President Butler has repeatedly emphasized that everyone should follow the same rules everywhere, both on and off campus, to avoid bringing illness back to classmates, teachers, friends or family members.
