Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security and Intelligence program has become the first residential undergraduate homeland security program in the United States to earn accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Education (CAEMHSE), an organization that aims to advance and promote quality emergency management and homeland security disciplines in higher education through a rigorous evaluative process.

This accreditation, announced recently, underscores the program’s academic excellence and innovative approach to homeland security education.

Dr. Peter M. Hoffmann, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, expressed pride in the achievement. "We are proud to have one of the very few accredited homeland security and intelligence programs in the nation," Hoffmann said, highlighting the program's comprehensive curriculum, practical skills emphasis and strong support from faculty as key factors that impressed the accreditors. “Not only will this accreditation help us to attract top students and foster collaborative interactions in teaching and research, but it will also help ensure the ongoing safety of our country.”

The Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security and Intelligence at Embry-Riddle educates students on security challenges through theory, simulation training and real-world best practices. The curriculum includes topics such as homeland security, intelligence analysis, emergency management and public safety. With faculty who have industry experience and a curriculum influenced by the field, graduates are positioned to contribute immediately to national security organizations.

Dr. Stephen G. Craft, chair and professor in the Department of Security Studies and International Affairs, described the accreditation as a milestone for university. "Achieving the homeland security and intelligence degree accreditation by CAEMHSE fulfills a long-term strategic goal of the SSIA department," Craft said, extending special thanks to Associate Professor of Security Studies and International Affairs Dr. Daniel Cutrer for his significant contributions.

Faculty and students have emphasized Dr. Cutrer’s dedication to developing courses and advising students, ensuring their preparedness for post-graduation careers. As a result of his efforts, the accredited program now stands as a testament to Embry-Riddle’s commitment to excellence in homeland security education.
