Amy Cicchino, the associate director for the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence on Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach Campus, has received an Honorable Mention for the 2025 CCCC Outstanding Book Award in the Edited Collection category for Better Practices: Exploring the Teaching of Writing in Online and Hybrid Spaces, coedited with Troy Hicks, Central Michigan UniversityThe Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) is a constituent organization within the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

This award honors books within the field of composition and rhetoric. Single and multiple authored books, as well as edited volumes, are evaluated for scholarship and research in the areas of pedagogy, practice, history and theory that have informed the work of past award recipients.

This year’s selection committee noted the following:

The CCCC Book Award Committee offers an honorable mention to Amy Cicchino and Troy Hicks’ Better Practice: Exploring the Teaching of Writing in Online Hybrid Spaces. In this collection, Cicchino and Hicks weave statements from relevant scholarly organizations to create an exigence for better, not best, practices. The unanimous sentiment among the committee was expressed by one member who wrote “what a wealth of perspectives offered in the chapters!” We believe that Cicchino and Hicks’ creative editorial vision for bringing contributors together performs a better editorial practice that is central to the collection. One that we hope, like all awarded books CCCC has honored previously, inspires better risks and innovation into what edited collections can be.

Cicchino will be honored during the CCCC Awards Presentation on April 11, during the 2025 CCCC Annual Convention in Baltimore, Maryland.
