Embry-Riddle to Update Fleet with 12 New Diamond Aircraft
As future aviators continue to flock to flight training programs in hopes of filling the industry's 602,000-pilot shortage projected by 2041, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University finalized a deal this week to update its multi-engine training fleet to accommodate students.
The agreement outlines the purchase of 12 new Diamond Aircraft DA42-VI, which will be used for multi-engine flight training at the university’s Daytona Beach, Florida, campus. The aircraft will be delivered in 2024.
"We are excited to extend our long-term use of Diamond DA42 Aircraft,” said Dr. Ken Byrnes, Embry-Riddle’s assistant dean and chair of the Flight Department. “Diamond’s commitment to the safety, quality and technological advancement of their aircraft align perfectly with our core values."
Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach Campus fleet is currently 98 aircraft strong, comprised of 87 Cessna 172s and 11 Diamond DA42s. At the university’s Prescott Campus, students train on a fleet of 75 additional aircraft, including eight Diamond DA42s. The university also trains students on over 260 flight simulators, housed between both residential campuses.
“We are honored to further strengthen our longstanding relationship with Embry-Riddle, which has been at the leading edge of aeronautical training for decades,” said Trevor Mustard, head of aircraft sales and marketing at Diamond Aircraft Canada. “DA42-VI — with an all-composite design, proprietary environmentally friendly and efficient jet fuel piston engines, as well as Garmin G1000 NXi glass cockpits — are a perfect fit for them.”
