Embry-Riddle Student Earned Scholarship from Board of Certified Safety Professionals
Lekan Aponmade, a Master of Science in Safety Science (MS-SS) alumnus at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott Campus, was awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).
Since 2006, BCSP has offered the Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) designation to safety degree programs such as Embry-Riddle’s Safety Science program. “I was very honored to be chosen for this esteemed scholarship—being recognized by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals means a lot to me,” said Aponmade. “I invested these funds into furthering my education and professional development.”
“BCSP has high expectations for professional advancement and training, and our staff in Behavioral & Safety Science are extremely proud of Lekan’s accomplishment,” said Dr. Erin Bowen, Chair of Embry-Riddle’s Behavioral & Safety Science Department.
During his time at Embry-Riddle, Aponmade was also the Student Government Association (SGA) graduate student representative. His professional goal was to become a safety professional focusing on human behavior, ability and limitation while developing interventions that range from simple engineering controls to robotics and mechatronics. With this approach, Aponmade hoped to strengthen the link between academic studies in safety and the application of those studies in industries.
“BCSP is very appreciative of all of the efforts Lekan has made to maintain this program’s high demands, which contributes to the advancement of the profession,” said BCSP CEO Dr. Treasa Turnbeaugh.
