Embry-Riddle Researcher Elected to Executive Council of Human Factors and Ergonomics Society

Dr. Joseph R. Keebler

Dr. Joseph R. Keebler, a professor in the Department of Human Factors & Behavioral Neurobiology at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, was elected to a three-year term to serve on the 12-member executive council of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.

With more than 20 years of experience conducting experimental and applied research in Human Factors, Keebler is director of the university’s Small Teams Analog Research (STAR) Laboratory, which conducts experimental research at the intersection of technology, training systems and teamwork. He is also co-director of the Research Engineering and Applied Collaborations in Healthcare (REACH) Laboratory, where he collaborates with a team of faculty and students to solve real-world medical issues at the intersection of teamwork and technology.

Keebler — who has a specific focus on training and teamwork in medical, military and consumer domains — has published more than 200 scientific works, including 80 peer-reviewed publications.

He has partnered with multiple agencies and led projects aimed at implementing human factors and ergonomics in complex, high-risk systems to enhance safety and human performance. This work includes command and control of tele-operated uncrewed systems, communication and teamwork in medical systems and simulation- and game-based training for advanced skills, such as playing guitar and identifying combat vehicles.
