Embry-Riddle Partners with Breaking Down Barriers to Expand Pilot Training Opportunities
Nonprofit Breaking Down Barriers (BDB) and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University have entered into a new partnership designed to expand access to professional pilot education and training for aspiring aviators around the world.
Under the agreement, Embry-Riddle will offer three of its Worldwide Campus degree programs to students enrolled in the BDB Pilot Training Program: a Bachelor of Science in Pilot Operations, an Associate in Science in Aeronautics and a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics. Each program provides flexible academic pathways, enabling students to earn degrees while completing flight training and related coursework.
“This collaboration reflects Embry-Riddle’s continued commitment to preparing the next generation of professional pilots and aviation leaders,” said Embry-Riddle Worldwide Chancellor John R. Watret, Ph.D., FRAeS. “By partnering with Breaking Down Barriers, we are broadening educational access and supporting students from diverse backgrounds as they pursue aviation careers.”
BDB, a Dallas-based organization dedicated to helping individuals become commercial pilots, will oversee recruitment, ground-school training and program guidance. Students pursuing degrees from Embry-Riddle will receive academic advising and administrative support from the university.
“Our mission has always been to help students overcome the challenges that stand between them and a career in commercial aviation,” said Dana Donati, CEO of Breaking Down Barriers. “Partnering with Embry-Riddle — one of the world’s most respected aviation universities — empowers our students with exceptional academic resources and a clear path to professional success.”
Through the partnership, students enrolled via BDB will be billed directly by Embry-Riddle at standard tuition rates. The agreement also allows both institutions to collaborate with additional partners in aviation and education, reinforcing their shared commitment to accessibility and excellence in pilot training.
