Embry-Riddle Mathematics Professor Honored with Prestigious ILAS Award
Dr. Sirani Perera, associate professor of mathematics in Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s College of Arts & Sciences on the Daytona Beach Campus, has been awarded the prestigious 2026 Olga Taussky and John Todd Prize from the International Linear Algebra Society (ILAS).
The award, presented every three years, recognizes a single outstanding mid-career researcher worldwide for distinguished and significant contributions to the fields of linear algebra and matrix theory. With the receipt of this honor, Dr. Perera will deliver a plenary lecture at the 2026 ILAS Conference hosted by Virginia Tech next May, aligning with the ILAS conference theme "Linear Algebra on the Blue Ridge: Panoramas of Theory and Applications."
The International Linear Algebra Society is a global mathematical organization focused on advancing research and education in linear algebra, matrix theory and matrix computation. It serves the international community through conferences, publications, prizes and lectures. The society features three milestone awards, the Hans Schneider Prize, the Olga Taussky and John Todd Prize and the Richard A. Brualdi Early Career Prize, representing the highest recognitions in the field.
"I am deeply honored and humbled by this recognition," Perera said. "I believe this honor will inspire our students to achieve their career milestones. This award signifies not only my achievement but also a celebration of the journey I have traveled with my students, collaborators and mentors."
"Dr. Perera is an exceptional researcher filled with dedication and passion toward her profession and her students," said Interim Dean Jayathi Raghavan. "This award from ILAS is a fitting recognition of her hard work and it is an honor for the college and the university to have one of our faculty recognized with this prestigious award. We offer our heartfelt congratulations and wish her continued success."
