Embry-Riddle Fall Semester Announced

President P. Barry Butler has announced that Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will welcome students back to campus for the 2020-21 school year, with strict health protocols in place, beginning Aug. 14 (Daytona Beach) and Aug. 15 (Prescott) for new students, and beginning Aug. 19 (Daytona Beach) and Aug. 21 (Prescott) for returning students, with classes beginning Aug. 24.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the fall academic calendar at the university’s Daytona Beach, Fla., and Prescott, Ariz. campuses will be modified to minimize travel and reduce health risks.

Face-to-face classes will conclude the day before the start of Thanksgiving Break, on Tuesday, Nov. 24. In addition, to make up for class time normally scheduled for the week after the Thanksgiving Break, the Labor Day Holiday and the scheduled Fall Break in October will be converted to face-to-face class days.

The week of Nov. 30 – Dec. 4 will be considered study days. Students will study from home. Any review sessions and tutoring will be done virtually. Final exams will be held as scheduled, but done remotely (online) or via take-home assignments.

“These changes to the fall calendar, in accordance with the university’s Path Forward plan, will allow students who reside on campus the option to remain home following the Thanksgiving holiday, allowing them to avoid travel during this time should they choose,” Dr. Butler said. “Residence halls and select dining facilities will remain open until the end of semester for those students who would prefer to remain in-residence through this period.”

Summer B

In preparation for on-campus, low-density face-to-face instruction during Summer B classes that begin on June 30, and the return of students in the fall, faculty, staff and student representatives at the two residential campuses will be fine-tuning safety-enhanced instructional strategies and protocols with a series of scenario-based contingency health and safety exercises through the summer.

“Because safety is our top priority, Summer B classes will be low density to give everyone at least six feet of personal distancing space,” Dr. Butler said. “Face coverings will be required, along with secure entry and exit screening, surface cleaning and enhanced safety protocols for classrooms and gathering spaces, all aimed at helping students and our campus communities stay healthy. A plan for university-wide Covid-19 diagnostic testing will be announced soon. These efforts, and our readiness training this summer, will prepare us to safely welcome all of our students for both Summer B and for the fall semester.”
