The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) recently announced the winners of its 2024 Sustained Service Awards, highlighting Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University distinguished professor Dr. Tasos Lyrintzis, of the Aerospace Engineering Department on the Daytona Beach Campus, as one of its eight honorees.

“AIAA volunteers are the aerospace community’s greatest resource,” said Dan Dumbacher, AIAA executive director. “These AIAA members lead by example, using their talent and energy to guide the community. We are grateful for their dedication and hard work.”

For over 35 years, Lyrintzis has served the AIAA, including leadership roles on committees, conference organizations and publications. He has conducted research on aeroacoustics, authored over 200 papers and advised 22 Ph.D. candidates. He has also been a member and chair of the AIAA Aeroacoustics TC, the Aerospace Department Chair Association and the Higher Education Committee.

Additionally, Lyrintzis is an AIAA fellow, a title which deems him “among the best minds in aerospace.” He has organized several AIAA conferences, as well, and served as an associate editor for AIAA Journal.

“Dr. Lyrintzis has long been a leader in his field, as well as here at Embry-Riddle, and it’s a delight to see him recognized for his decades of hard work,” said College of Engineering Dean Dr. Jim Gregory. “The award is a direct reflection of Dr. Lyrintzis’ commitment to the field and to his sustained energy to advance aerospace engineering and education. It’s also indicative of the high caliber of aviation and aerospace faculty who inspire and educate Embry-Riddle students. Dr. Lyrintzis serves as an inspiration and example to our students for what is possible through sustained commitment and service.”
