Career Services Is Here to Support You Through the Fall (and Beyond)

A lot has changed since we last saw you in person. We know you may be feeling anxious about how this global pandemic affects your future job prospects, internships, and ability to interact with employers during the 2020-2021 school year.

Rest assured, Career Services has been working very hard this summer to plan our fall 2020 employer recruiting schedule, to constantly stay up to date on current hiring trends, and to learn best practices to successfully interact with students virtually. We would like to share some important information and updates with you so you are prepared to take advantage of all Career Services has to offer this fall.

Prescott Campus Fall 2020 Employer Recruiting Events

Our traditional large-scale Industry/Career Expo that occurs during OctoberWest will transition to both a virtual event and several “mini” Industry/Career Expos throughout the month of October in order to allow employers and students the ability to socially distance and interact with each other’s health, safety, and budgets in mind.

Virtual Industry/Career Expo: September 30, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. PDT
Virtual Graduate School Fair: October 21, 1 p.m.–4 p.m. PDT

Pivoting to a virtual platform will be a learning curve for all of us, and the effort you put into preparing ahead of time is so important for the event’s overall success. Registration will open in September. The best things you can do to prepare are:

• Complete your Handshake profile entirely
• Upload your resume to Handshake as a PDF
• Continually monitor your email for updates. Also, check the Handshake events page to register for upcoming workshops to help you prepare for the Virtual Industry/Career Expo.

On-Campus Industry/Career Expos: October 1, 14, 22, 29, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. PDT

Daytona Beach Campus Fall 2020 Employer Recruiting Events

Our traditional large-scale Industry/Career Expo will transition to a virtual event for the fall. Registration will open in September. There are no classes the day of the Expo.

Virtual Graduate School Fair: October 21, 4 p.m -7 p.m. EDT

• Read your Sunday Career Services Emails and check the Handshake Events section to register for upcoming workshops to best prepare for the Virtual Industry/Career Expo

Please keep in mind that some companies are planning information sessions, panels, workshops, and networking events outside of the Expo.

Worldwide Campus Career Services Initiatives

With the addition of the new Dean of Students office, Worldwide Career Services is poised to adapt and assist in meeting the challenges of our global student population. We are proud partners in assisting with the recruitment of strategic employer partners for the Aviation Maintenance Technology Skillbridge Program as well as piloting the first WW virtual undergraduate co-op/internship opportunity with FlightSafety International. In addition to presenting Career Services webinars to support AMT Skillbridge students, WW Career Services also supported the Pathways to Success initiative spearheaded by WW College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) and the Alumni Tour Across the Country (ATAC) webinar series spearheaded by WW Campus Operations.

“The challenge of using resources innovatively to provide career assistance globally to our students and alumni represents the value of the Embry-Riddle experience,” said Arnold James, Worldwide Career Services Director. “We understand the impact of what we do, particularly when students and alumni (including military veterans) log into career webinars from almost every country imaginable around the world!”

Student Appointments

Career Services plans to follow University protocols and CDC recommendations when meeting with students this fall, which may change based on current conditions. We remain as available to you as we’ve always been, if not more so. The success of these virtual mediums depends purely on your initiative to take advantage of them, and we encourage you to be proactive in your internship and job search process by reaching out to your Career Services Program Manager regularly. Presentations and Workshops

Career Services will be offering special programming this semester to prepare you for this new virtual environment. Please visit Handshake > Events to view and RSVP for events. Although the impact of the pandemic has presented unique challenges within higher education, it also highlights the tremendous value of attending a quality academic institution like Embry-Riddle. With a laser focus on enhanced safety protocols and quickly adapting the delivery of academic excellence via multiple modalities, Embry-Riddle continues to globally demonstrate steady leadership, world-class academic excellence and fiscal responsibility to current and prospective students. In addition to maintaining positive enrollment levels, Embry-Riddle alumni, faculty and staff members are also realizing the value of having an expanded network of industry professionals to collaborate in the face of layoffs and job losses. Although the pandemic has resulted in over 90% of Embry-Riddle’s workforce to work remotely, Career Services continues to be actively involved in providing career assistance and career resources. Career Services experienced a significant increase in requests for career support by students, alumni, campus directors and department staff — including the new norm of Zoom video conferences focusing on virtual networking and preparing for virtual interviews. Over the summer, Daytona Beach, Prescott and Worldwide Career Services staffs collaborated to support the university Alumni Relations department to connect and provide webinar panels on career trends and industries due to the impact of COVID-19 and will continue collaboration efforts. As always, students and alumni from all campuses are invited to attend any career expo or workshop hosted by any campus.
