Embry-Riddle Launches New Emergency Communication System

Daytona Beach, FL, and Prescott, AZ, May 4, 2012

Rave System

Embry-Riddle has implemented a new communication system from Rave Mobile Safety that will send emergency alerts to faculty, staff and students via several methods at the same time, including text, email, phone, siren signals and the University’s Facebook page and Twitter account.

Recognizing that a new system was needed to meet the demands and needs of its rapidly growing and technologically savvy campuses, University officials chose Rave after nearly a year of assessment and testing.

“When an emergency occurs, public safety personnel need to respond to the incident and address a number of concurrent responsibilities,” said Kevin Mannix, Director of Safety at the Daytona Beach campus. “This is why integrated emergency notification systems are being implemented by campuses across the country. They can launch multiple forms of emergency communication simultaneously.”

The Rave system will send alerts to employees and students at the Daytona Beach and Prescott campuses as well as to personnel at the University’s Worldwide Campus headquarters, which is located in Daytona Beach. These individuals can check and update their Rave contact information through Embry-Riddle’s intranet.

“The implementation of this new emergency alert system is part of the University’s continued efforts to improve and provide accurate, timely information to students and ensure their safety,” said the University’s Director of Public Relations Melanie Hanns.
