“Live for today, because yesterday is gone, and tomorrow may never come.” Timothy Englehardt’s favorite quote became a tragic reality on Sept. 13, 2014. In honor of this fallen Eagle, the $15,000 Timothy M. Englehardt Memorial Scholarship for Meteorology was created by family, friends and fellow Sigma Chi Fraternity, Eta Iota Chapter members, and will provide financial support on an annual basis for a meteorology student at Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach Campus.

“We appreciate Embry-Riddle helping to create this scholarship with the support of the Eta Iota Chapter of the Sigma Chi brotherhood to allow students’ dreams to live on,” shared Timothy’s parents, Therese and Bill Englehardt. “Having Timmy’s legacy continue through this memorial scholarship shapes his very dream of becoming a meteorologist since grade school.”

Timothy was a senior at the Daytona Beach Campus, pursuing a career in broadcast meteorology. He was an active member of Sigma Chi and the university’s orientation team and mentored fellow students with understanding and kindness. He received numerous awards during his time at Embry-Riddle, including being named a member of the Society of Collegiate Scholars.

“Tim was a true leader at Eta Iota and brought everyone together for the good of the order,” said Sigma Chi Fraternity alumni lead John Wrightington. “Honoring him with a scholarship is just one of a number of tributes he so well deserves.”

At the time of his passing, Timothy had just completed a 2014 summer internship with WCVB Channel 5 in Boston, which supported his lifelong dream of becoming a chief meteorologist. Timothy attended Haverhill High School in Bradford, Mass., where he was a member of the varsity football team and the National Honor Society.

“Timothy has touched the lives of many students, faculty, staff and alumni, and we could not be happier to help support the establishment of a memorial scholarship in his name,” said Lyndse Costabile, Embry-Riddle’s Director of Development.

The announcement of the memorial scholarship comes as more than 250 Sigma Chi alumni gather at the campus to celebrate the fraternity’s 45th anniversary.

“Sigma Chi’s anniversary at Embry Riddle isn’t just a reunion. It’s also a time for us to celebrate the incredible growth and strength of our alma mater,” said Wrightington. “With almost 800 alumni, we represent all areas of the aviation and aviation-related industries, but for this weekend we will also be enjoying our newly renovated house, strengthening our fraternity and chapter bonds and remembering Timothy as friend and brother.”

Individuals are invited to contribute to the Timothy M. Englehardt Memorial Scholarship for Meteorology at Embry-Riddle.
