Protecting UAS from Cyberthreats

Donna Dulo presenting

Business and government leaders recently joined academics to discuss the latest in cyber threats at CYBERWEST, the Southwest’s Cybersecurity Summit. Among the topics discussed was “Unmanned Aerial Insecurity: The Liability, Security and Policy Issues of Hostile Third Party Takeovers of Unmanned Aerial Systems.”

Donna Dulo, an adjunct professor in the College of Business at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide, explained that like other systems, UAS are vulnerable to security breaches. Steps must be taken to ensure the aircraft, controller and other elements of the system are protected from intrusion. Breaches can lead to dire consequences – ranging from legal issues to personal injury.
