90th Anniversary Photo Contest Winner Announced

Embry-Riddle 90th Anniversary Winning Photo

While traveling to Germany 11 years ago, Dawn Elkins snapped a photo of her son and his great grandfather gazing at planes from the airport window. For Elkins the photo represents the love for aviation that spans through three generations of her family. Her grandfather was an airline mechanic for an airline carrier during World War II.

Elkins and her husband, Erick, built careers in the aviation industry after earning their bachelor’s degrees from Embry-Riddle in 1997 and 1998. Elkin’s son is now 13 and has expressed an interest in earning a degree in the aviation field as well.

Elkins is the winner of the Embry-Riddle 90th Anniversary Photo Contest. The photo shows the impact of aviation through generations. As the winner Elkins received a trip to attend Embry-Riddle’s Wings and Waves Airshow Oct. 8-9. The photo will also be featured in a print ad for Embry-Riddle.

“This picture is one that I love,” Elkins said. “It shows the connection and love for aviation that they both share.”

The Daytona Beach Campus is a special place for Elkins. It’s where she married her husband nearly three decades ago. She now lives in Arizona and works as a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines and her husband, Erick, works in aircraft technology for Raytheon.

Elkins said she is looking forward to returning to the Daytona Beach Campus with her son, who has expressed interest in attending the university in the future.

“I think it is going to be a great motivating factor for him to come to Riddle,” Elkins said.

Additional social media contests will be scheduled throughout the year. To learn more about Embry-Riddle’s 90th Anniversary, visit erau.edu/90.
